10月5日、共同創設者の一人であり、刺激的な製品で世界中を魅了してきたがご逝去されました。
カリスマ、独裁者等々、彼の型破りなビジネススタイルや言動に対しては賛否両論ありましたが、彼が発信してきたメッセージは強く心に響いたのを覚えています。はあまりにも有名ですが、にも素敵なコンテンツがあったのでご紹介。

①Follow your heart - やりたいことをやる
"Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle.
仕事というのは、あなたの人生の大半をしめるものであり、仕事で満足を得る唯一の方法はあなたが素晴らしいと思える仕事をすることだ。そして素晴らしい仕事をするための唯一の方法は、あなたの仕事を愛することだ。もしまだ見つかっていなかったとしても決してそれに甘んじず、探し続けることだ。"
②Make a dent in the universe - 偉大なことを成し遂げる
"Being the richest man in the cemetery doesn’t matter to me … Going to bed at night saying we’ve done something wonderful… that’s what matters to me.
死んだ後に大富豪になることに興味はない。ベッドで眠るときに素晴らしいことを成し遂げた、と言えることが私にとって意味のあることだ。"
③Thinks different - 異質であれ
"Kick start your brain. New ideas come from watching something, talk to people, experimenting, asking questions and getting out of the office!

④Sell Dreams, Not Product - 製品ではなく、夢を売ろう
"Your customers dream of a happier and better life. Don't move products. Enrich lives. - 顧客はより幸せでよりよい人生を夢見ている。製品で感動させるのではなく、彼らの人生を豊かにするのだ。"
⑤Make products for yourself - 自分のための製品をつくろう
"We think Mac will sell zillions, but we didn't build the Mac for anybody else. We build it for ourselves. We were the group of people who were going to judge whether it was great or not. We weren't going to go out and do market research. We just wanted to build the best thing we could build.
Macの大ヒットは間違いない。しかし、私たちはMacを彼らのために作ったのではなく、私たちのために作ったのである。私たちは素晴らしいかいなかが判断基準の組織であり、マーケットリサーチなどしない。私たちはただ私たちのできる最も素晴らしいものを作りたかっただけなのだ。"
⑥Say No to 1,000 things - 無駄なことはするな
"It's only by saying no that you can concentrate on the things that are really important.
重要なことに集中する唯一の方法は、Noということだ。"
⑦Keep it simple - シンプルであれ
"That's been one of my mantras -focus and simplicity. Simple can be harder than complex. You have to work hard to get your thinking clean and simple. But it's worth it in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains.
集中することとシンプルであることは私の信念である。シンプルであることは複雑であることよりも難しい。思考を整理し、シンプルになるまで考えぬかなければならない。しかし、それにはものすごい価値がある。もし、それを達成することができれば、山をも動かせる。"
⑧Go for Excellence - 卓越せよ
"Be a yardstick of quality. Some people aren't used to an environment where excellence is expected. -
質を担保する存在となれ。中には、高い質を求められる環境に慣れていないものもいる。"
⑨Break the rules - ルールに囚われるな
"Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes... The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules... because the ones who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.
クレイジーな人たちがいる。 反逆者、厄介者と呼ばれる人たち。四角い穴に丸い杭を打ち込むように、物事をまるで違う目で見る人たち。彼らは規則を嫌う。 なぜなら、彼らは自分が世界を変えられると本気で信じていて、本当に世界を変えているのだから"
⑩You only live once - 人生は一度っきり
"'If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?' And whenever the answer has been 'No' for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.
もし今日が人生最後の日だとして、今日やろうとしていることをやりたいかと自らに問いてみたときに、"No"が何日も続くようであれば、何かを変えなければならない。"
